How To Cook Beef Bourguinon - Recipe Similar to that Seen on Masterchef

1 and a half pounds of boneless chuck beef
1 to 2 tablespoon of butter
3 to 4 slices of bacon
1 onion
1 carrot
1/2-1 teaspoon of salt
A dash of pepper
1/2 teaspoon of thyme
1 tablespoon of flour
1 tablespoon of tomato paste
1 bay leaf
1 and 3/4 cup of red wine
10 to 12 pearl onions
1/2 pound of mushrooms
1 to 2 cloves of garlic

Cube the meat and brown in the butter. Remove the meat from pan and put in large pot. Cut the bacon into strips then peel and chop the onion and carrot. Saute until soft and add to the meat. Season with the salt, pepper and thyme then sprinkle with flour.

Add the tomato paste and bay leaf then stir. Add red wine then cook covered over medium-low heat for about 1 and a half hours.

Peel the pearl onions and clean the mushrooms. Saute together a few minutes then add to stew when 30 minutes of cooking time remains. Add minced garlic and cook until meat is tender.

Profile:

Indira Naidoo was born in 1968 in South Africa and migrated to Australia with her family as a young girl. Naidoo graduated with a journalism degree from the South Australian College of Advanced Education and joined the ABC in Adelaide as a news cadet in 1990.

Naidoo has had numerous roles on Australia's TV screens, notably as host of the ABC's National Late Edition News, and SBS' Late News. In 2006, Naidoo took on the role as spokesperson for CHOICE magazine and established the Shonky Awards for Australia's worst consumer products,

Indira Naidoo has also appeared on numerous TV shows as a guest including Club Buggery, The Fat, Good News Week and The McFeast Show.

Josh Thomas is best known from his most recent role as the Gen Y leader in Ten's hit series Talkin Bout Your Generation.

But despite being only 22, Josh has been around the comedy circuit for some time. At just 17, Josh won the Melbourne International Film Festival's Raw Comedy Competition. He also made the finals of the Edinburgh Festival's So You Think You're Funny contest.

Josh Thomas was also named best newcomer at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2007.

Profile:

Kirk Pengilly is an Australian musician, best known for being a member of the band INXS. Born in Melbourne in 1958, Pengilly has many music talents including playing the guitar, saxophone and a vocalist.

Pengilly was briefly married to singer Deni Hines in the 1990's and is currently engaged to world champion surfer, Layne Beachley. His daughter April (born 1988) is a model.

Kirk Pengilly is an ambassador for The Eye Foundation.

Rules to Be a Contestant On Masterchef Australia

Auditions - MasterChef Contestant Rules of Entry

The second series of Masterchef Australia will commence in 2010. Applications to take part in the series must be submitted online, and you have to be over 18 years of age as at 28 September 2009.

The casting process and auditions are due to take place in September and you must be available for filming between October and April June 2010, for a total of 22 weeks. You will be allowed a break for Christmas and New Year.

The following are the rules for the application to be a part of Masterchef Australia:

Rules of Entry & Instructions:

1.All applications must be submitted on-line. Applications received by post cannot be accepted.

2.Answer all questions honestly and to the best of your ability.

3.We will be unable to reply to all applicants individually. You will only hear from us if you have been invited to an audition.

4.Please ensure you read, fully understand and meet the eligibility requirements before applying to be a contestant on Masterchef. The rules of entry are at the end of this form.

5.Please attach a DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPH of yourself to your application.

6.You must be aged 18 or above on 28th September 2009

7.You must be an Australian citizen or resident.

8.You cannot have any formal tertiary or other professional catering qualifications acquired in the last 10 years.

9.All Masterchef contestants must be amateur cooks. If you have previous professional or semi-professional kitchen experience that the producers deem (in their entire discretion) could create an unfair advantage you are not eligible. Guidelines for professional activity that preclude participation as a contestant on Masterchef (and the matters listed in this clause 9 are not exhaustive) are as follows:

a.You cannot have ever worked full-time in a kitchen as a cook, chef or in food preparation

b.You cannot have earned money or payment of any kind from preparing food and/or cooking fresh food in a professional kitchen environment such as a restaurant, café or take-away in a casual or part time capacity for a total of more than 6 weeks in the last 15 years

c.You cannot have taught cooking classes or have done cooking demonstrations or food preparation in any capacity be it casual, part time, full time or contract in the last 15 years

10.You must be able to commit to all the filming days required. Excluding auditions, the filming is scheduled to take place between approximately October 2009 & June 2010 for approximately 22 weeks with a break over Christmas & New Year

11.You cannot be, or be closely related to, a member of FremantleMedia Australia Pty Ltd (the “Producer”), Network Ten, Shine Ltd or Reveille LLC staff.

12.You cannot have been convicted of any serious crime.

13.Submission of an application form and compliance with the above does not in any way constitute an offer to appear on the programs.

14.The Producer may (but may not) invite you to attend an audition at their discretion. When selecting applicants for Masterchef, the following issues will be taken into account: skill, enthusiasm, drive, love of food, desire to change your life.

15.The Producer’s decisions regarding selection to the programs are final.
